Wyatt Milum, West Virginia: 2025 NFL Draft Profile & Scouting Report
Milum was a four-star recruit from Spring Valley High School in Huntington, W.Va. in the class of 2021
I thought West Virginia left tackle Wyatt Milum was a borderline top 100 player when I did his summer evaluation, but he changed my mind during the season’s first month. Milum projects as an early third round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and could get bumped up higher because of the scarcity of quality offensive line prospects.

Wyatt Milum, LT West Virginia: 2025 NFL Draft Profile
Classification: Senior left tackle from Kenova, W.Va.
Background: Milum was a four-star recruit from Spring Valley High School in Huntington, W.Va. in the class of 2021. Milum earned three All-Mountain State Athletic Conference selections, including a Second Team selection in 2018 and First Team selections in 2019 and 2020. Over the course of his high school career, Milum played 1,480 snaps and didn’t allow a sack. On defense as a senior, he totaled 23 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a blocked kick.
Injuries & Off-Field: Missed second half of the 2022 Texas Tech game with a leg injury, missed 2023 Houston game after being poked in the eye the previous week
Awards: 2021 Freshman All-American (FWAA, The Athletic), 2023 Second Team All-Big 12, 2023 Honorable Mention All-American (Phil Steele)
Pros: Experience playing right tackle and left tackle, times the snap well, some knee bend in pass set, controlled and measured footwork, jump sets to take the air out of the pass rush, holds hands close to his frame, patient with his hands, rarely takes bait on pass rush moves, delivers rib shots to the 3-tech, impressive one-on-one block framing, impressive grip strength, overpowers outside linebackers, pushes edge rushers past QB at top of the arc, maintains a wide base, sturdy anchor, defenders struggle to play through his frame, nice awareness on stunts and delayed blitzes, burst off the snap to execute reach blocks, creates wide B-gaps in run game, leg drive to dig out 4 and 5-techs, creates significant horizontal displacement, good open field speed, movement skills to operate in a gap scheme, comfortable working to the LB on combo blocks, excels working to the second level, good angles to linebackers, comfortable blocking toward sideline on wide zone runs, excels at extending blocks horizontally and past the opposite hashes in the run game, angles body to protect ball carrier with terrific consistency, good finishing power, motor runs hot
Cons: Penalized 18 times in 2022 and 2023 combined, arm length falls short of offensive tackle thresholds, lower half lean especially in calves, inconsistent first step in pass set, high pad level, knee bend and hip sink in pass pro are limited, waist bending in pass pro, some lunges in pass pro expose his outside shoulder, lacks agility and twitch to mirror B-gap counters consistently, lacks the suddenness and twitch to mirror elite athletes, feet get heavy toward the top of the arc, footspeed for protecting outside shoulder fades occasionally, range is good but not ideal on an island, anchors high, inconsistent balance leads to lunging and falling, plays with his chest past his knees and waist bending in run game
Overview: Milum has experience starting at right and left tackle. His high level of technical play compensates for his limited arm length. Milum times the snap well, but he gains inconsistent depth and width with his kick step. He plays with a high pad level and resorts to waist bending in pass protection. Milum’s controlled and precise footwork helps him match the pass rusher’s tempo. He uses jump sets to take the air out of the rush. The senior keeps his hands close to his frame until he extends for punches or clamps. His patient hand usage and footwork prevent him from taking the bait on pass rush moves. Milum’s grip strength and block framing stand out in pass protection. Once latched, he uses his power and motor to torque or drive defenders and finish them to the ground. This high effort play translates to the run game too. Milum constantly looks for work. He’ll redirect inside to hammer the 3-tech when not covered up by a rusher. The West Virginia native drives rushers up and around the pocket but lacks elite range. His footwork gets heavy toward the top of the arc, exposing his outside shoulder. Milum occasionally lunges to make contact, which opens outside rush lanes for twitchy defenders. Milum lacks the agility and twitch to mirror the game’s most athletic edge rushers. This, combined with concerns about his arm length, makes his best long-term projection at guard, but he deserves a shot to stick at tackle in the NFL. Milum anchors high but rarely finds himself challenged by power. Defenders struggle to play through his frame. Playing chest-to-chest with Milum is asking for trouble considering the left tackle’s finishing power. The former four-star recruit identifies stunts and delayed blitzes. In the run game, he has the initial burst out of his stance to establish reach blocks. Milum widens the B-gap by generating significant displacement and uses his leg drive to dig out 4 and 5-techs. He occasionally lunges and whiffs on blocks but generally showcases comfortable movement skills. Milum’s open field speed and impressive angles working to the second level make him a fit for both zone or gap schemes. He climbs in the tackle box to pick off linebackers on combo blocks or pulls outside the numbers to block along the sideline. His power pops as he overwhelms second level defenders.
Overall, Milum is a consistent lineman who outperforms his measurables and physical traits with his motor and play strength. Milum is an excellent run blocker, but his pad level, waist bending tendencies, and lapses in foot speed leave him vulnerable to NFL-caliber rushers in pass protection. He could stick on the outside in the NFL, but transitioning inside to guard solves a lot of concerns.
