There was some talk of Arizona tackle Jordan Morgan transitioning to guard after entering the NFL, but the fifth-year senior has the technical development to stick outside. Morgan projects as a top 60 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Injuries & Off-Field: Missed three games in 2020 with injury, missed one game in 2021, missed two games in 2022 with a torn ACL
Awards: 2022 All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention, 2022 First-Team All-Pac-12 (Associated Press)
Pros: Only two penalties committed in 2022, massive hands with impressive clamp strength, thick build designed to deliver NFL-caliber power, stout lower half, patient approach in pass pro with his head up, controlled and calm in pass pro, faced some of the nation’s most productive pass rushers in 2022, foundation of a blocking technician, quick and corrective footwork, carries defenders up the arc, quickly redirects for stunts, plays with a wide base, maintains good knee bend, good understanding and use of leverage, power to re-anchor versus bull rush after giving some ground, quick to replace hands, digs out edge defenders in the run game with leverage and body positioning, successful on reach block assignments
Cons: Mounting injury history, left tackle experience only, arm length is good but not great, hand placement gets wide, occasionally allows defenders into his chest, hand placement needs to protect chest more, should place more emphasis on clamp and drive/torque, some waist bending that leads to stumbling, too quick to abandon footwork and freelance, sometimes pauses feet at point of contact which leaves him vulnerable, occasionally misses twists or stunts, inconsistent counter for bull rush, vulnerable to push-pull moves, not suited for pull duties, bit of a lumberer in space, inconsistent angles to second-level defenders, should generate more displacement in the run game
Overview: Morgan’s injury history and one season of elite play are valid concerns, but the Arizona tackle has one of the highest floors in the 2024 NFL Draft. Morgan sports massive hands with impressive clamp strength and a thick build designed to deliver NFL-caliber power. He has a stout lower half and wide base that helps him anchor against power rushes. Morgan is calm and controlled in pass protection, taking a patient approach that limits his technical mistakes. The fifth-year senior thrived in 2022 despite facing some of the country’s most productive pass rushers. Morgan pairs his power with quick and corrective footwork that helps him carry defenders up the arc. He recognizes stunts and quickly redirects for them. Morgan maintains good knee bend throughout the play and has an excellent understanding of leverage. His powerful frame, hand usage, and leverage allow him to re-anchor versus bull rushes after giving some ground. Morgan digs out edge rushers in the run game with leverage and body positioning that allow him to get under the defender’s pads or seal for a run lane. The All-Pac-12 honorable mention offers enough juice off the line to successfully execute reach blocks. Morgan is quick to replace his hands, but his initial placement is often wide. This leaves his chest exposed and gives defenders a preventable advantage. Morgan’s arm length is good but not great, which could lead to some matchup-specific issues in the NFL. The Arizona native battles some waist bending, which impacts his balance and leaves him open to push-pull moves. He abandons his footwork to freelance too quickly. Morgan sometimes pauses his feet at the point of contact, which leaves him vulnerable to swim and rip moves. The former three-star recruit needs to build out more consistent counters for the bull rush. Considering his build and power, Morgan should place more emphasis on clamping and driving defenders downfield in the run game. He lumbers a bit in space and isn’t suited for pull duties. Morgan takes inconsistent angles to second-level defenders.
Overall, Morgan has the traits and foundational technique in pass protection to succeed at either tackle or guard in the NFL. Many of his flaws are correctable and only show up on occasion. Better hand placement and some tweaked footwork tendencies will turn Morgan into a Week 1 starter.
