DeAndre Jules, IDL South Carolina: 2025 NFL Draft Profile
Classification: Sixth-year defensive tackle from Germantown, Md.
Background: Jules was a three-star recruit from Northwest High School in North Germantown, Md. in the class of 2019. He was the No. 961 recruit according to 247Sports and No. 911 for On3.com. Jules was an unranked three-star recruit for Rivals and an unranked three-star recruit for ESPN with a 76 grade out of 100. He transferred from Pittsburgh to South Carolina for the 2024 season. Jules lettered four years in high school. As a senior, he amassed 59 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, ten sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and a blocked kick. Jules was invited to play in the Big 33 Football Classic. He was born on May 8, 2001.
Injuries & Off-Field: Went down in several 2023 games but returned to each one, missed Alabama and Oklahoma games in 2024
Awards: N/A
Pros: Special teams experience on the punt return and field goal block units, build and measurables suggest unrealized potential, verified summer weight puts him over 320 lbs., many explosive reps off the line, quick to engage hands, hand placement helps pry o-linemen up and establish leverage, channels power from his base up into his hands, excellent leg drive, two-handed swipe, rip move, some speed to power, club move, swim move, club-swim, spins back into the action, gets skinny to fly through gaps, long levers and leg drive to reset LOS in the run game, extends arms to create space and then separate from blocks, uses a swipe-swim to discard blocks in the run game, solid open field speed
Cons: Age, a little high-hipped, frame appeared lighter than listed weight in 2023, overall solid but not outstanding athlete, not a twitchy or sudden athlete, lacks agility for sudden change of direction, lacks high end bend to flatten rush angles, offensive linemen re-anchor against his bull rush, pass rush plan is still developing, underdeveloped hand counters, doesn’t work counters off his speed to power, doesn’t revive rushes after they stall, often fails to keep frame clean, not consistent maximizing arm length as a pass rusher, missed opportunities to finish plays in the backfield, offers nothing anchoring vs. double teams, displaced by combo blocks, put away by down blocks, inconsistent shedding blocks on time
Overview: Jules primarily takes snaps as a 3-tech, 2-tech, and 2i and sees limited time at 4-tech. Pitt gave him a few snaps at 0-tech in 2023. His build and measurables are ideal and will attract attention during weigh-ins. Jules is an older prospect who is a little high-hipped. He’s a good athlete but won’t blow scouts off their feet with his movement skills. Jules isn’t sudden or twitchy and doesn’t have the agility to match elusive ball carriers or correct after biting on misdirection. This leads to missed opportunities to finish plays in the backfield. His frame’s cut creates some stiffness and prevents him from bending his rush angle to the quarterback. Jules explodes off the line and engages his hands early in the rep. His hand placement pries up the offensive lineman’s pads to help Jules win the leverage battle. The sixth-year prospect channels power from his base, through his core, and into his hands. This makes his bull rush impactful, but it falls short of elite since some offensive linemen successfully re-anchor against it. Jules’ pass rush plan includes rips, clubs, swims, club-swims, two-handed swipes, and some flashes of speed to power. His pass rush plan isn’t well developed for a veteran defender. He doesn’t chain counters onto his initial rush moves frequently enough. Jules fails to restart his rush once it stalls, mostly because of his lack of developed counters and inconsistent pass rush plan. The Maryland product doesn’t maximize his arm length and allows too many offensive linemen into his chest. Jules can either get skinny to shoot gaps against the run or use his long arms and relentless leg drive to walk linemen into the backfield. He’s best working vertically against the run. Jules struggles to anchor at the point of attack and plays with inconsistent gap integrity. He uses his length advantage and a swipe-swim to discard blocks and pursue the football. In clear run scenarios, defensive coordinators should ask Jules to push forward and try to create a mess in the backfield rather than drop anchor and two-gap.
Overall, Jules has the flashes, power, and measurables to be more than just a late Day 3 selection, but his lack of development and inconsistencies as a sixth-year player raise concerns about his projection to the next level. He isn’t seeing enough volume at South Carolina to change the conversation.
