Injuries & Off-Field: Ejected for fighting vs. Arkansas (2023)
Awards: N/A
Pros: Background as a guard, thick upper body, room to add mass to his frame, powerful and impressive frame, anchor to dominate outside linebackers, appears to have NFL-caliber tackle-sized arm length, explosive enough first step to match wide-angle rushers, gains great depth in pass pro to counter all different types of rushers, agility and nimbleness to carry defenders up the arc, adjusts foot speed to match and mirror tempo of the rusher, redirects to pick off late blitzers, impressive outside hand placement in pass pro, solid block framing, attacks long-arms at the elbow with powerful downward swipes, polished snatch-trap, two snatch-traps vs. LSU (2023), creates effective movement on down blocks, when his power shows up it shows up in a big way, power really popped and looked more aggressive vs. LSU (2023)
Cons: Committed six penalties in 2023, a little high cut, has to open hips to fully carry some edge rushers around the top of the pocket, bendy edge rushers can get under his outside hand, base becomes too narrow at times when engaged in pass pro, footwork needs to be more controlled in pass pro, room to anchor lower, pushed back too easily by heavy hands, needs to be mindful of how wide he’s making the B-gap, doesn’t protect the B-gap against counters enough, awareness of the QB in the pocket comes and goes, more independent hand usage needed, too many two-handed punches, clamp and hands need to be more powerful, room to make outside hand more firm, baited into swim moves occasionally, not a consistent mauler, aggressive mentality comes and goes, no desire to bury defenders at times, carries hands too wide and low in the run game, ducks head into run blocks, slips off blocks in the run game, angles to run blocks, misses second-level targets in the run game, stacked one-on-one in run games with opportunities to be shed
Overview: Membou has experience at left guard dating back to his time in high school, and he opened Missouri’s 2023 camp at right guard before kicking outside to tackle to reprise his spot from the end of his freshman season. Membou has a thick upper body with room to add additional mass to his frame. He has a powerful and impressive build with an anchor to dominate smaller pass rushers like outside linebackers. Membou appears to have NFL-caliber tackle-sized arms. His first step is explosive enough to match wide-alignment rushers, and he gains good depth in his pass set. Bendy or explosive edge rushers can force Membou to open his hips as he tries to carry them up the arc, but he generally has the agility and nimbleness to track defenders up and around the pocket. The rising junior adjusts his foot speed to match and mirror the tempo of the pass rusher. He redirects to pick off late blitzers in pass protection. Membou has impressive outside hand placement in pass protection and frames blocks well, but his hands can be firmer to set harder edges. He attacks long-arm moves at the elbow with powerful downward swipes and frequently uses a snatch-trap, which he pulled off several times against LSU (2023). Membou’s power really pops in the run game when he fully applies himself. He doesn’t have a consistent mean streak, but the flashes he showed against LSU and South Carolina in 2023 really stood out. The Missouri native’s aggressive mentality comes and goes. He carries his hands too wide and too low in the run game, and he ducks his head into run blocks. Membou slips off blocks in the run game and takes poor angles to second-level and even first-level defenders. His approach to run blocking allows defenders to stack him one-on-one and potentially shed his blocks. Bendy edge rushers can get under his outside hand. The former three-star recruit’s hand placement stunts the defender’s pass rush with a heavy punch to the chest when defenders try to play through his frame. Membou’s base becomes too narrow at times, and his footwork is all over the place while engaged with the defender. He should try to anchor lower in his stance. He is pushed back too easily by heavy hands, which showed up on his Tennessee tape (2023). The Volunteers had success walking him back off the line before redirecting into the B-gap to pressure the quarterback. Membou needs to be mindful of how wide he’s making the B-gap to prevent inside counters. He needs to rely on two-handed punches less and develop more independent hand usage. Membou’s clamp and hands need to be more powerful.
Overall, Membou is a rising star with terrific physical tools to be one of the top offensive linemen in the 2025 NFL Draft, but his footwork and hand usage are still in their developmental stages. His tape is a fun view into a young player who is showing high-level flashes after just two seasons.
